Belgium already has many internationally renowned esports personalities.
The International Olympic Committee has recognised esports as a sporting activity, and it will be a full medal event at the 2022 Asian Games. Belgium already has many internationally renowned esports personalities, such as Eefje Depoortere (aka Sjokz), one of the most famous commentators in the world of “League of Legends”, and players such as Adil Benrlitom (aka ScreaM of envyus). Esports can be described as games played at a competitive level, whatever the game. It is a sport in which the “athlete” plays a virtual persona within an environment. The esports industry generated more than 950 million in revenue (2019) and was expected to exceed 1.1 billion in 2020. In 2019, around 1.8 billion people worldwide had already heard of esports, up from 1.6 billion in 2018.
